The Ullman birds of prey have landed

ULLMAN Kiteboarding is the latest brand breaking into the UK market with their Osprey and Falcon kite wings. They are based in the beautiful backdrop of Cape Town, South Africa, where crystal blue waters and perfect windy conditions make it an ideal location for designing and testing wings and wing foils. A real bonus is that the wings are manufactured in SA, giving them direct control over output and quality.

An established brand

Ullman themselves actually aren’t new. The Ullman Sails brand is well-established in the industry and have been around for over 50 years. As committed kiters, they’ve been waiting for new sail technology to filter into the kite market with bated breath. And they finally decided to take the bold step to create the ideal kites that they themselves wanted to fly.

Dare to explore

Owning their manufacturing facility and having access to the latest technology available, this is exactly what Ullman Kiteboarding are now doing. They don’t conform to the norm and dare to explore beyond the horizon. They have been labelled as crazy innovators but they relish the fact that they can share the stoke with other mavericks who share the same vision and enthusiasm for the sport.

Osprey II

The key focus with the Ullman Osprey was to design a wing which is easy to handle but will still excel on downwinders and waves riding.

A stiff frame provides a stable platform, providing excellent power delivery when pumping. The rapid lift and acceleration lifts you up and onto the foil sooner, achieved by finely tuning the leading edge diameter for each size wing. The medium aspect ratio and rounded wingtips keep the Osprey out the water and in the air, while giving a light flying sensation.

Seting up the ullman falcon wing

Falcon II

The Falcon wing gets its name from one of the most graceful birds of prey. Known for its high speeds and ability to rapidly change of direction, this wing has been designed to mimic these characteristics.

The Ullman Falcon offers a stable draft in strong winds and a well balanced profile when transitioning. Much like the DUOTONE Echo, the addition of the boom offers intuitive hand control and trim, with the ability to set a deeper draft for light winds and a flatter profile for high wind speeds. The leading edge is specifically designed for each size, offering a stable wing and maximising support when loading for a jump.

With strong ambitions for an eco-friendly facility the journey is just beginning for Ullman Kiteboarding. They’re already working towards an energy-efficient and carbon-neutral production facility. Ullman also re-purpose waste fabric into functional gear with the intention of minimising their carbon footprint and being less harmful to the environment we all love.

Hover Wing Foil Board Size

Below is a rough guide to help determine Hover Wing Foil board size based on rider weight and skill level. A “beginner” rider is considered as someone with no previous board sport experience.

Keep in mind that additional factors, such as wind conditions, foil, and kite wing size will play an important role in the selection of the right board size.

As a rule of thumb, we recommend erring on the side of a more buoyant board with a volume that matches rider weight (for example, an 80kg rider will need at least an 80L board or larger). Riding a “sinker” will work in locations with steady, strong winds, while floatier boards prove to be a safer choice as they allow the rider to get back to shore even if the wind drops under a foilable limit.
